How to Choose the Right Keywords for SEO

Choosing and considering the use of Search Engine Optimization is very important if you are in an industry that involves online business. If you are new in the business and unaware of terms like SEO, you might find yourself lost. SEO means choosing and using the right keywords on your site content, to help move your site to the first five on the Google page. As of now Google performs 88-90% of searches in Google UK and 65% of searches with the US. You might wonder, why should your site be seen between 1-5 and why not number 1? This again will reflect on the conditions as applied by Google’s Algorithms that keep changing. This will however need detailed explanations and we will not be going into that now.

What makes SEO so important that you need to get it applied?

SEO is used to make the traffic to your site increase incredibly. In the absence of SEO your site will just exist and fail to serve its purpose. With the right choice of keywords used you will be able to generate the right kind of traffic to your site, which will in turn result as a prospective enquiry, or sale.

For clearer understanding, if you own a dairy shop in New York, instead of just using the word “Dairy” you could be more specific by using terms like “Dairy in New York” or “New York Dairy”. You have got to be very specific and not generic if you want to make it to the top.

People of today are being more and more precise on their searches. They tend to focus on keywords to narrow down their searches and get what they are exactly looking for. SEO kind of searches is exactly what people are doing now. Let’s think back on the last time you looked up something online. What terms and phrases did you use? Did you get exactly what you were looking for? Or did you have to scramble around. By using the right keywords while you search you’ll be able to hit the nail on the head.

The term commonly used in the industry is “Long-tail” these are the keywords that you should more likely try to use. This may be 2-3 keywords clubbed together. This SEO strategy will get you at least few queries per month, narrowing down the competition helping you make sale conversions.

If you are willing to give it a go I suggest you first make a list of keywords that are commonly used in your business. You could also collect a few tips from Google AdwordsKeywordTool to collect all the information that you need.
